Day 187 Oct. 12, 2012

My new Photography book:

Yup, I'm about to embark on taking black and white photos, and I'm hoping this book will help me a lot with certain tips. It's relatively inexpensive (just about Php500) but is made of great stock paper - and even if most of the pictures are black and white, they are there to show specific pointers.

Why am I doing this? 1) aside from wanting to experiment on a few new things, B&W shots look timeless - in the way that we know how they have a near anachronism, and I would like some of my shots to have that timeless look.

2) I noticed that a lot (if not all) professional photographers have delved into B&W photography - in fact, they do photo shoots of their models in B&W at times. It is because of this that some models building their portfolios ask for B&W shots. I just want to be ready to render such a service, if asked.

3) B&W shots give off great emotional depth. Where patterns are better seen - patterns like face lines, patterns in walls... B&W is, after all, able to better present lights and shadows, brightness and darkness - in other words, the ability to emphasize contrasts. I shall definitely put what I learn from this book to good use whenever and wherever I can.
