Day 113 Jul 30, 2012

Bird on a statue:

This is a shot I took while at the Greenbelt park an a relatively rainy day - it's not the bird, nor the statue that is unique - but the combination of both. In a province, such birds may be seen on top of real carabaos - picking on the carabao's hide... cleaning it of any insect. But in the city, there are no carabaos around - being farm animals, they have no reason to be in the city.

I don't know if this bird has had the opportunity to perch on the real thing - not impossible if this little bird has been in some portions of Cavite or Laguna where there may be some farm animals around, but here it seems content to stop on the statue and look around. After all, aside from statues, there lurk some dangers for this one by way of lurking cats.

What made me like this picture even more was the fact that it had a macro effect with the garden in the background - the shade supplied by the overhanging clouds make the emphasis of the foreground objects sharper. One would think that I had somehow had a soft light focus on the statue's back and really put some light on the bird. I'm not that much of a forward thinker, specially when I'm in street (or in this case, park) photographer mode. Nope, the wonder of this shot is that I took advantage of natural lighting.
