I always like the challenge of taking pictures of lights. On one side, if I take in too much light, I won't see anything but brightness. Go the opposite and I see the bulb - but everything else is blacked out.
So it really is a a challenge to find what can be considered as the right balance... seeing the light, and seeing the background.
It helps if the light is not that bright - like this particular yellow light placed in a lamp post styled container. That said, when I saw this, I opted to get my camera and take a few shots with differing set-ups. I then chose what seemed to be the better balance - then further did some adjustments with the brightness and contrast before considering it as acceptable.
