Flood Set-up:
If you look closely, you'll realize that this is nto our ground floor. It's the turn/pause of the stairs, which is basically five steps above the floor. As you can see, the ref, water cooler and one library shelf is occupying said place, in lieu of Barbie's and Bernice's shoe racks.
The reason for this is obviously to preserve these three items from any damage possibly caused due to flood waters entering our place. And since the flood waters were predicted to enter, I - together with ate Vicky and Barbie, started bringing up what we should - namely these three, several boxes filled with my comic collection, and another library shelf (which we placed at the upper end of the stairs).
Not shown here is how we placed the sofa set on top of a folding table, and likewise, the TV stand on a smaller table (which meant I had to temporarily place the large TV on the dining table). That said, the flood still caused us discomfort, and it almost claimed one car (which I still have to clean and tune-up, for forcing it to go through floods). I'm just glad that the power returned late last night, so we slept soundly - even while the ground floor (and the outside garage/walkway) was flooded. Our doors, however showed obvious signs of damage from the flood, and we used a lot of cleaning and disinfecting today, as we got rid of the flood waters.
If anything, there were definite lessons learned from Ondoy which helped me control the situation a whole lot better - though I just wish we need not put them to use, but so long as we stay here in this part of Sta. Mesa, we will have to be vigilant. I could even say that due to this monsoon flood, I got into a very intense workout.
I've decided to leave the book shelves where they are. They do look good there - and it makes the downstairs less cluttered and more spacious. I'm likewise tempted to leave the ref where it is. It was, after all, the hardest and heaviest to bring up. I'll sit on the idea another day or two - see how things go.
