Positive spin on floods:

What do you do when there's just too much water water around? And said water is far (really far) from being sanitary?

For starters, one could avoid the waters when possible. If that proves impossible, and one simply has to wade, then there's the sanitary practice of washing with soap whenever you get out of the flood waters - which could easily contain diseases of many kinds.
Or... you could put a positive spin to the entire experience by grabbing the usual props for swimming pools - in this case, a small inflatable raft, and let the kid enjoy the flooding experience. Nice, huh?
